Professor Andrew Lever
Chair of SABProfessor Andrew Lever FMedSci is emeritus Professor of Medicine and Infectious Diseases at the University of Cambridge. He trained in Wales, Newcastle, London and Harvard. At Harvard he identified the packaging signal of HIV, the basis for lentiviral vector systems and jointly held the earliest patent on this. He has researched a number of viral vector driven gene therapies and was a member of the UK Gene Therapy Advisory Committee for 7 years. His laboratory is the originator of the gene therapy approach underpinning his second spinout company Spliceor.
